  • How long should a project process take?
    A typical residential project’s turnaround time is 2-4 weeks from initial meeting to delivery of lighting package but can be known to stretch to 6 months. This is often determined by the type of project requirements and the build process for example, at what stage of construction the project is in etc... A commercial project would range anywhere between 4 weeks to even 12 months.
  • Why use a Lighting Designer?
    They have the ability to create Emotional Connections - through mood and drama, ambience and wayfinding, experience creation, enhancing a feeling or sensation They continuously stay abreast of Industry Knowledge of lighting technology, products and developments in control They are Experts in the field of light They can coordinate and Influence Design Details to achieve a more seamless integration of light.   • I don’t have a big budget – do you offer a smaller services?
    We certainly can. This can be through a 1hr chargeable consultation, which includes a pre-meeting review of drawings and some project preparation. This can be used as a deposit if you pursue further design services. We do have a clear onboarding process where we determine your project requirements prior to arranging a meeting, and in this process if we feel we're not the right fit for your project we can assist in providing further direction from there.   • What is a Lighting Designer?
    A lighting designer works solely in the application, the effect and the control of light. As an artistic and scientific field, it combines creative and technical capabilities. The designer will decide what type of lighting approach to use to achieve specific results, in particular what type of lighting will create the desired mood, navigate the right attention, appropriately light the task at hand, and ultimately what will enhance the experience of a space.
  • What’s the difference between a lighting designer and a lighting supplier?
    Lighting designers provide an independent service which is not affiliated to specific lighting manufacturer or supplier. Whereas a lighting supplier (or manufacturer) can offer a lighting design service which is formulated using their products alone. Lighting Designers have the freedom to select the best quality products to meet a project’s requirements, cleverly resourcing from multiple suppliers and manufacturers to achieve a desired aesthetic as well as functional outcome. This generates more flexibility with price point, type of product and technical specifics, and having access to unlimited global brands!
  • How much does a Residential Lighting Design cost?
    Whilst every project and client’s requirements are different, a typical residential project can range from $1,500 to $6,000 + GST. This range is dependent on size and scale, providing only the required project services, which could be anything from Concept ideas only or 3D visuals and Technical drawings. We have a service package and pricing guide for all clients, which we tailor to suit the individual design requirements, scale of project, level of detail and coordination all whilst supporting the client’s communication style.
  • I don’t know what I want to achieve from the lighting? Or how to control it?
    Through our expertise and onboarding process we propose a number of questions which guide you through lighting your space or environment. We investigate how you like to experience things or create experiences, your personal preferences at different times of the day and the different task requirements of the space – then we will discuss different effects, applications and options of control, giving relatable references and examples to help explain all the fabulous things you can do with light! And we make it simple - No jargon or Technical lingo, just real-life applications and experiences!
  • Can you work alongside current design team?
    We have long standing relationships within Adelaide’s design community and have worked alongside, with and in conjunction with many architects, engineers, builders and contractors to deliver on a quality and integrated solutions. Communication is key with all parties involved and we like to be as transparent as possible.
  • I have a budget for the lighting supply – can you work with this?
    Absolutely! If you have an idea of your lighting budget this is often considered gold! Lighting can be an expensive part of any construction project and is usually the first thing to get value managed. We can work with you to help you understand the reality of this, if we need to be clever and creative, we can work with suppliers to support your budget and also make sure we make use of it in the right places! As part of our key services, we provide an estimated supply budget as early as possible, so the costs are transparent from the get-go and can be discussed throughout the design process.
  • What is a typical Lighting Design process?
    There are typically 6 stages to a lighting design process which aligns with a typical Architectural or Interior design process which are: STAGE 1 - PREPARATION & BRIEF Developing the client brief and thorough understanding of the project STAGE 2 - CONCEPT DESIGN Accumulation of creative ideas considering effects, shadow, materiality, texture, colour, movement and their relationship to the architectural forms STAGE 3 - DEVELOPED DESIGN Expanding ideas into a functional reality, testing the design, budget and brief STAGE 4 - TECHNICAL DESIGN Completion of the Technical Drawings and Design Team coordination STAGE 5 - CONSTRUCTION Assisting the project management and procurement teams and supporting the contractor STAGE 6 - HANDOVER Review of the final result and making sure all is operating as intended
